Britrail Travel Tips and Trivia "Standard" is British for "second" class. Overnight journeys begun on your BritRail pass or Flexipass's  final night can be completed the day after your pass expires. Only BritRail allows this trick. A bunk in a twin sleeper costs about $40 per/person. British Rail Deals Not Sold in the USA In Britain, round-trip "same-day-return" tickets can cost as little as 10% more than the one-way fares. Britain also offers Super Advance Return tickets at a savings of a few pounds — purchase before 2 p.m. the day before your trip. For even more savings, consider Apex fares (purchase at least 1 week in advance for trips of 100+ miles) or Super Apex fares (purchase at least 2 weeks ahead for trips of 250+ miles). Apex deals get snapped up quickly in summer. They can be booked up to 8 weeks in advance, are non-refundable, and can be ordered from the USA by credit card (call to Britain 011-44-8457-484-950 for 24 hour information.  They will give you anothr number to purchase tickets). For £18 ($26), the Young Person's Railcard (for ages 16 - 25, or full-time students 26+ with ISIC) or the Senior Railcard (for age 60+) gets you a third off most point-to-point tickets for a year. The Family Railcard for £20 ($29) allows adults to travel 20 - 33% cheaper while their kids aged 5 - 15 pay just £2 apiece for most trips. The bus system is better and much cheaper (e.g. $15 Dublin-Galway, $20 Dublin-Cork).
