    Croatia Flexi Pass   NEW

Train travel in Italy with point-to-point train tickets is getting more expensive & is often frustrating because of the long lines, confusing system of supplements (charged for just about any train other than the milk runs), as well as the language problems when dealing with people in Italian train stations. A Flexi first or Second class Iraly Rail pass makes travel easy if you can figure out how may days you plan to travel in Italy.

Italy Rail Map

The updated Eurail Flexi Italy Pass is more flexible with it's 6 additional rail day "add-on feature" to the basic 3 day pass. For more train travel savings, check the Youth & Saver categories for both first and second class passes-- thr Saver pass  is for 2 or more people travel together! The Italy Rail Pass is worth a lot more than its point-to-point value, since you validate only once and it covers all trains in Italy and most supplements and eliminates lines. Like other rail passes and point to point train tickets,  it does not cover train seat reservations when they are required. The Eurostar Italia  trains can get expensive.

Expect to pay up to $15 extra for seat reservations when traveling between major cities in Italy such ad Florence and Rome,  whether you use a rail pass or point to point train  tickets. The high-speed Eurostar Italia trains run frequently between main cities and require these pricey reservations. You can avoid some of these costly reservation with a little research for schedules that don't use high speed trains and take 10-30 minutes longer to reach your destination.

Italian Kilometric Ticket  Is was cancelled  in 2003 accoriding to Italian officials. The Italy Flexi Rail Card  or  second class Point to Point Train Tickets  are likely the best substitues.
Also known as the "Biglietto Chilometrico," This flexible but complex ticket featured coupons for up to 20 trips totaling up to 3,000 kilometers that can be used by up to 5 people over a period of 2 months  ($354 first class and $256 second class if bought in USA). This $90-100 jump in price in 2000 has decreased the savings you got previous years.   The ticket can be purchased cheaper  in Italy. For example, a group of five can travel the 570 km from Venice to Rome on a 2nd class Kilometric Ticket for $51each which is $5 MORE per/person than the normal 2nd class $46 ticket price. It does not cover supplements charged for the faster intercity trains. TERC sells this ticket. Please allow 10 working days for orders.  Carefully  figure out the Kilamentors needed for your trip before purchasing. Use TERC's Point to Point Ticket Prices page for estimates or contact TERC with your destination sequence and dates for detailed assistance:
    e-mail: tercmele@aol.com

Point to Point tickets are often the best buy for short trips  in Italy. The Flexi Pass is one to consider for longer Italian trips.
