Letter from Lani Lok Winter Dressing
Greetings from the city by the bay where little cable cars climb the hills
and the Golden Gate bridge welcomes all. My name is Lani Lok and I am living
here in this very diverse city after 35 years in Hawaii. I am looking forward
to sharing hints, travel scoops, plus other information that would be of
interest to TERC travelers.
To start with, we are at the beginning of off-season Europe travel. This
brings many ways to save travel dollars (including the new Eurodollar) with
very cheap air fares and accommodations. However, many people avoid this
off-season because of the cold weather and the challenge of staying comfortable
enough to enjoy their sight seeing.
What do you wear and pack and still travel light? If you're the pack light
and go traveler, you will need to carefully plan your wardrobe for your
destination.
As a frequent traveler, you may have started to build a travel wardrobe and
know what works for you. Here are some tips for the novice
winter traveler. Have you seen the new fabrics that
are perfect for cold-weather travel? YouÕll see names like Polarfleece,
Supplex, Microfiber, Microfleece, Gortex, Capilene, Synchilla, etc. Clothing
from these fabrics run the gamut from jackets, pants, vests, underwear, tops,
gloves, hats and even some socks. Not only are these fabrics lightweight,
washable and wrinkle-proof, but the added use of Lycra has resulted in
stretchable clothing which is very comfortable for traveling.
I have experimented with using garments with these fabrics for dual purposes...
i.e. sleeping and day use. The fabrics wash easily in the sink and dry quickly.
Styles vary so that you can incorporate pieces to mix with your wardrobe.
Adding a few garments of these fibers will certainly keep you warm and
comfortable as well as lighten your bag.
Aloha, Lani Lok
