Mele's Packing Check List

10 August 2006 Banned items for Carry on Luggage

Recent Changes for in-cabin Carry-on Luggage

START WITH YOUR BAG*.  This is your "HOME" for the duration of your trip. I recommend taking an airline carry on "backpack type bag" which makes  going up and down train and hotel stairs easier.  If the idea of "Back Packing" Europe doesn't appeal to you, consider throwing your pack on a luggage carrier with large (4"-6") wheels.   Large wheels handle cobble stone and high curbs easily without giving your  wrist "carpel tunnel" .   Another alternative is a *backpack with sturdy wheels.

Organize your bag with:

"Zippered Baggies"--good for liquids, picnic items, pens, dirty laundry
*"Pack-it System Folders"--keeps clothing compact and neatly folded
*Mesh bags--great for "mushy" underwear, socks, sweaters, etc. -- they don't hold air & shape to available bag space.

*Toiletries Kit with HOOK--conserves on limited counter space and keeps toiletries easily accessible

Recommended take-alongs:

Bring comfortable clothes that you can wash/dry in your room sink.  (Give them the "wring and dry" test before leaving home)   Try to get multiple uses from your choices. I co-ordinate my colors and think  "layering" for weather changes. To keep my bag light I select easy care fibers like polyester and silk. (they also keep me warmer than cotton in cool weather).   NOTE: Garments with zippered or Velcroed  and button down pockets can deter theives.
